General Statement of Support
TO: ECFiber Governing Board
We heartily support your effort to bring fiber-optic broadband telecommunications services to all the homes, institutions and businesses in our communities, and the partnership between East Central Vermont Community Fiber Net and ValleyNet. ECFiber’s mission to create a network combining financial sustainability, community ownership, open access and state-of-the-art technology will create a strong foundation for the future economic and social development of our communities.
The small businesses and community institutions that are typical of our area and the rest of Vermont are increasingly reliant on high-speed communications to maintain or improve their competitive position and to fulfill their missions and community responsibilities. Educational, medical and emergency services also need high speed/high capacity communications to improve the quality and range of what they offer. Extending high-speed broadband access to all our citizens will enable them to participate fully in the economy of the future, reduce commuting, and save gas. It will also enable our elders and those with disabilities to have a more productive and richer life during our long northern winters.
This is perhaps the single best investment we can make today, to assure the vibrancy of our communities into the future.
